After succcessful stability, rowing and sailing sea-trials, Periauger’s maiden voyage was from the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort, to its home port of Hertford, NC.  The voyage began August 15, 2004 and concluded in Hertford with a Grand Arrival and welcoming ceremony as part of Hertford’s Indian Summer Festival, September 11, 2004.

Each evening Periauger wrote a letter to us and included whatever photos she could get from her human companions. Her letters and photos form a kind of day by day photo diary chronicling her passage, as well as the adventures of her crew, as they travelled from Beaufort to Hertford, North Carolina via the intra-coastal waterway - sometimes sailing, sometimes rowing, sometimes towing and, occasionally, by road on a trailer.
