After winter maintenance, Periauger was returned to her down-town Hertford slip in spring to begin her first full season of visitors and planned expeditions.
2005 began with a “bang” - several of them, actually - as the Pirate ship “Meka II” fired cannon broadsides behind Periauger in the Norfolk Harborfest parade of sail. It was an appropriately lively beginning to this year’s season of expeditions and activities.
On several occasions throughout the summer volunteer skippers and crews sailed Periauger on the Perquimans River, enabling guests of honor to experience first hand the peaceful comfort of this unique vessel under sail. More short sailing adventures were celebrated as part of Hertford’s Indian Summer Festival.
Periauger made a return visit to Bath, this year, to help the town celebrate its tricentennial during Bath Maritime Heritage Days.
As in 2004, the year’s public display events concluded with Periauger’s participation in the annual Hertford Christmas Parade.
