This was a major milestone year in the life of the Periauger Project. Construction was completed, sea trials were concluded, and the vessel was sailed from Beaufort to her home port of Hertford in what was called the “Odyssey”. These activities took up most of this year, with the Odyssey culminating in a Grand Arrival ceremony in Hertford on September 11, as part of the town’s annual Indian Summer Festival.
After such an enormous undertaking as the Odyssey, Periauger’s team of volunteers could have been forgiven for taking the rest of the year off - but instead they took Periauger on several fall road trips to neighboring events and then concluded the year by participating in Hertford’s Christmas Parade.
During the winter months, a team of volunteers under the leadership of Don Johnson performed careful maintenance and refinishing work on Periauger’s hull and spars, in readiness for a busy 2005 season.
